I've been sitting on the beach this weekend and I've learned a lot. I've been reading Brian McLaren's Finding Faith. It has been a stretching book. I've also been growing close to Lee Beaton. He and I have had some great talks about faith, love, and God's majesty. It has been great connecting with him. Stacey and I are doing amazing as well. This weekend has helped us grow closer and we've figured so much out. I feel like God is working in us to help grow us into the couple he intends for us to be.
Here are some thoughts I've been wrestling:
1. Would Christians, as a whole, not be better off if we stopped focusing on what the Bible tell us not to do and started focusing on what we are to do. Love. Live. Love some more.
2. I don't believe we should all be relative thinkers, per se, but I wonder how the flawed Muslim perception of God is any different from our very obviously flawed perceptions of God.
3. Im tired of using the Bible as my shield. My defense mechanism. I want it to be my favorite book of literature, poetry, and good teaching. It is inspired by God. God breathed it into existence. He also breathed us into existence. It is not to be some cosmic rule book. Some end all of all conversations. It is a love letter from God to us. I don't scan every love letter from Stacey to try and prove my own points. If I did, would I be reading it like she intended... no.
May God bless you in your chasing after Him.

Had a great time with you guys this weekend, good thoughts, I think we do need to focus on what the bible is telling us to do!
1. Would Christians, as a whole, not be better off if we stopped focusing on what the Bible tell us not to do and started focusing on what we are to do. Love. Live. Love some more.
I agree full heartedly with this one. Moreover, it would seem that if we were doing the right things, we would necessarily not be doing the wrong ones. The focus, as you point out, should thus be on the more proactive things- especially love.
I can only half agree with you. Big surprise, huh?
My brother speaks for me with more eloquence than I could hope for at http://outletofinsanity.blogspot.com/2005_01_01_outletofinsanity_archive.html. "Revolutionary Idea" addresses the issue of reading the Bible for what it is.
Much admiration is due you for stating #2. Most "people of the faith" will be scandalized and angry upon reading it.
Keep speaking the truth as it resonates with you.
